A dala is worn by a Solomon Islands chief at feasts and gatherings. It is made of two layers of material; one side made from a segment of a turtle shell carved into a filigree overlay, the reverse made of clam shell. The necklace is made of old shell money called 'kasa'. It was made by Jack Saemala of Langalanga Lagoon.
